The Dove Self-Esteem Project (DSEP) exists to help young people across the world build their body confidence and self-esteem – so when they tasked us to create a completely new catalogue of digital images, we set about making sure their message was brought to life.
With lifestyle images intended for use across different Dove markets, the process involved finding a diverse cast of children and parents who had never previously modeled, as well as sourcing shoot location houses that would make them feel at home.
The updated look for these images needed to be light, authentic and natural, and so having set up a backdrop that ticked all these boxes, our main focus at the shoot was to create a warm and fun environment that made sure our cast felt comfortable and natural in front of the camera. We achieved this by using a casual reportage style of photography, encouraging the girls and boys to get to know each other, chat and genuinely participate in activities to ensure authentic interactions.
We produced more than 2,000 images over the two days, which we whittled down post-shoot to a final 70. The visuals selected have been added to 20 live DSEP websites – the product of intensive organisation, captured in a collection of beautiful photographs.
